New Era to launch marketing campaign for new 'Spring BP' cap
New Era, the the exclusive manufacturer of the official on-field cap worn by every Major League Baseball team, is in the midst of developing a new marketing campaign for its new batting practice “Spring BP” cap.
Katherine Kulczyk, corporate communications manager, told WinmoEdge that New Era has nothing to share about the new campaign yet. The company is meeting this week into next with MLB for approvals on concepts.
President Pete Augustine told The Sports Business Journal last month that New Era will launch a multi-pronged marketing campaign around the new Spring BP Cap, which will be introduced during spring training.
This year’s hats have the same silhouette as New Era’s 59Fifty caps, which are worn during games, and improved moisture management, addressing previous from players. Previously, “Spring BP” hats had a lower crown than the regular game caps.
The new BP caps also feature a , including secondary and tertiary logos and brim colors that contrast with the crown. The designs above aren’t finalized and approved yet, meaning teams may still reconsider the logos.
New Era’s global creative AOR has been ” series (latest ad below) featuring NBC sitcom actors Nick Offerman, a Cubs fan, and Craig, Robinson, a White Sox fan.The company handles media buying and planning in-house, according to The List.
Last summer, New Era made several to its leadership team, including Evan Jones as vice president and global marketing/chief marketing officer. These moves came as the headwear-centric brand continued its evolution into an overall fashion focused lifestyle brand.
Kantar Media reports that New Era allocated almost $7.2 million towards measured media in 2011, up from $2.9 million in 2010. Magazine ad spending saw the biggest boost, going from $1 million in 2010 to $4.6 million in 2011.
