Opportunity: Just one month after naming a new top marketer, Loews Hotels has also named a new CEO. S. Kirk Kinsell will take on the role of CEO effective March 2, 2015. Current CEO Paul Whetsell will stay with the company until then in order to facilitate a smooth transition.Look for print, digital, social media and loyalty opportunities, but not right away – Chairman Jonathan Tisch said Kinsell’s addition does not signal an immediate change in the company’s strategy. Rather, Tisch said: “We will let Kirk get settled, we will let him have an understanding of who we are as an organization, and then we are very open to his ideas about how we can continue to grow the Loews brand.”
Experience: Kinsell is joining Loews from InterContinental Hotels Group, where he most recently served as president of the Americas. Tisch said that Kinsell’s “broad experience” made him the ideal choice and Kinsell said he is “gratified” by the prospect of being able to “shape the continued growth of one of the most storied luxury brands in the industry.”
SVP, Marketing: The hotel named Jim Cone as its new SVP of marketing in November. In his new role, Cone oversees marketing for the company, including advertising, brand strategy, direct marketing, CRM, partnerships, loyalty program development and other various initiatives to draw travelers to any of the company's properties. Prior to joining Loews, Cone was with Hilton Worldwide for a decade.
Media Spend: Kantar Media has Loews Hotels' measured media spend at $4.8 million in 2013. Print ads accounted for 43.09% of this spend, while 56.76% was allocated to digital. Broadcast, radio and out-of-home accounted for 0.15%, collectively.
