Owens Corning Building Materials segment nabs new Group Prez
Owens Corning, a world leader in building materials and glass fiber reinforcements, announced the appointment of Karel Czanderna as the new group president of building materials, according to the company
Prior to joining the Toledo, Ohio-based company, Czanderna served as vice president of the cooking products and outdoor kitchens businesses at Whirlpool Corporation, where she was responsible for Jenn-Air, KitchenAid, Whirlpool, Maytag and Amana branded cooking appliances.
Czanderna also spent 18 years at Eastman Kodak Company, where she served as vice president and general manager of the portrait photography business, and as a vice president and general manager in the copier and printer business.
Owens Corning is a global producer of residential and commercial building materials, glass fiber reinforcements and engineered materials for composite systems. The company’s building materials group includes insulation, roofing and asphalt, masonry products and construction services businesses.
Spokesperson Jason Saragian told DailyVista that Owens Corning
implements both B-to-B and B-to-C marketing initiatives, and across multiple channels.
“It’s premature to determine what kind of changes, if any, (Czanderna) will make,” he said. “There is a 100-day plan for Karel to become fully entrenched into the business, and connect with our plants, customers and innovation centers. That will better equip her to make the changes that she may wish to make.”
Saragian confirmed that Owens Corning’s top marketing decision-maker is its current Chief Marketing Officer Chuck Stein.
He said that it is too early to speculate on how she will proceed with the company’s marketing strategy, but did say that Owens Corning does work with several international marketing and public relations agencies.
Nielsen Monitor-Plus reported that Owens Corning spent about $10.4 million on national advertising in 2007. About $7.6 million was spent on spot television, $2.1 million was spent on cable television and $400,000 was spent on spot radio ads.
Agencies with both B-to-B and B-to-C experience might want to give Czanderna some time to adjust to her new role before contacting her to discuss possible project work opportunities at Owens Corning.
