FreightCar America names SVP, Marketing, Sales
Aluminum railroad car manufacturer FreightCar America Inc. announced the appointment of Theodore “Ted” Baun as the new senior vice president of marketing and sales, according to the company
Baun first joined the Chicago-based company in 1994 and has since held roles of increasing responsibility in operations, marketing and sales.
From 2003 to 2005, he served as director of sales at Mitsui Rail Capital, and has been the leader of FreightCar America’s sales team since November 2007.
FreightCar America, Inc. manufactures railroad freight cars, with particular expertise in coal-carrying railcars. The company also designs and builds bulk commodity cars, flat cars, mill gondola cars, intermodal cars, coil steel cars and motor vehicle carriers.
Baun will serve as a key member of FreightCar America
’s leadership team and will succeed former SVP, Marketing and Sales Edward Whalen upon his immediate retirement from the company.
He will report directly to current President and Chief Executive Officer Chris Ragot, and will have a significant hand in shaping FreightCar America’s strategic direction.
“We are extremely pleased that Ted is succeeding Ed Whalen in this very important position,” Ragot said in a statement. “Ed has been at the core of guiding our company not only through many changes and difficult market cycles, but also to tremendous levels of growth and success that would not have been possible without his efforts.”
The appointment comes almost one month after FreightCar America declared its financial earnings for its second quarter, which ended June 30. The company earned $141.3 million for its second quarter in 2008, down from $195.4 million during its second quarter in the previous year.
Baun told DailyVista that FreightCar America is a small company that prefers to keep things low-key, and therefore declined to answer any additional questions about the company's marketing strategy.
