Luxury Male Media Opps: Land Rover ad spending up amid rising sales, relaunching LR4 in Q4

Opportunity: After a surging popularity of SUVs. Therefore, auto endemic and luxury male focused sellers should continue to go after Land Rover’s $100 million plus annual paid media budget. Center your pitch on Q4, when the the LR4 seven passenger luxury SUV will be replaced by the redesigned 2017 Land Rover Discovery. 

Furthermore, marketing will continue to support the new Discovery Sport midsize crossover, which replaced the LR2 in April 2015. At about $37,500 it’s priced much lower than over Rovers, opening up revenue for affluent millennial focused sellers. Also continue to seek ad revenue for top-of-the line Range Rover, which with a starting price of $85,000 still was accounted of 25% of US sales last year, followed by Range Rover Evoque ($41,500) and Discovery Sport, according to Bloomberg.

While Land Rover mostly targets affluent men, it has run sites on female lifestyle sites the past year, perhaps opening up revenue for sellers here too. WPP’s

TV Breakdown: During the past 12 months, $61.5 million has gone to national TV ads (see targeting right), almost 3X what was spent over the prior period, according to iSpot.tv

Digital Breakdown: During the last year, banners, high impact and video have appeared on almost 4,500 publishers (6% mobile), 62% of which was placed site programmatically versus site direct. News, auto and fashion publishers have been targeted the most. Top sites include nationalgeographic.com, details.com, cars.com, popularmechanics.com and edmunds.com. 

Note female focused sites like vanityfair.com and elle.com account for a small amount of activity, as well.
