Q4, H2 2016 Media Opps: Keurig launches Kold, larger marketing campaign to follow

Opportunity: This week Keurig launched the rollout for Keurig Kold we’ve been telling you about since last year (research here). Kold has been available online since Tuesday and this month it will expand to retailers like Bed Bath & Beyond, Target, Walmart, Kohl’s, Best Buy and Bloomingdale’s in six markets: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas and Atlanta. As such, ads launched online and will be followed up with TV targeted to these markets.

Therefore, sellers should continue to seek ad dollars for these markets but anticipate a wider national rollout next year. So, focus particularly on Q4 and the second half of 2016, when the national rollout should begin/traditionally Keurig’s top buying period. Kold is expensive, so an edge should initially go to readers with proven ability to engage affluent millennials, particularly females concerned with health/wellness. At $370 for the unit and $5 for a pack of 4-pods, this product is not designed at launch for middle-class moms, whom rival SodaStream is also capitalizing on (research here).
