The Story
Multimedia music giant Warner Bros. Records announced it created a new position to oversee a wide range of departments, according to the company.
 
David Marcus joins the company as senior vice president, strategic initiatives. Most recently he was senior vice president of music for Ticketmaster. There, he was credited with forming working partnerships with companies such as Apple Inc.’s iTunes, American Express and Target.
 
Before Ticketmaster, Marcus worked for Treble Music Marketing. As managing director, he ran business and marketing development services for companies like AOL MusicNow and Yahoo Music. He was also vice president of development and legal affairs for Radiowave.com
 
Burbank, Calif.-based Warner Bros. Records produces, distributes, licenses and markets music CDs, cassettes, records, VHS tapes and DVDs. New York-based Warner Music Group Inc. is its parent company.
 
The Research
Marcus is charged with developing and streamlining a wide range of Warner Bros. Records departments, including merchandising, new media marketing, technology and e-commerce.
 
He will work closely with the company’s Head of Global Marketing Piero Giramonti in an effort to execute new business initiatives to improve services to the company’s artists and products for the company’s customers.
 
Warner Bros. Records Chief Executive Officer Tom Whalley said in a statement that Marcus’ wide range of experience growing and building non-traditional marketing platforms will help the company work toward its goal of creating a broad-based creative home for its artists.

According to Nielsen Monitor-Plus, the company spent about $4.3 million on media in 2007. About $2 million was spent on cable television ads, about $1.1 million on national magazine ads and about $400,000 on Internet advertising.
