(Update 3/3): We’ve confirmed that Omnicom's Mediavest, LA still has traditional media. 

Therefore, digital sellers should start making introductions to new agency side decision makers now. Overall, Q2 and Q3 are Universal Studio’s top traditional and digital advertising periods, with the goal of driving park visits during the peak summer vacation period. Ad spend should continue to be higher throughout the year thanks to the debut of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, slated to open April 7.

Media Spend: Universal Studios spent $12.8 million on measured media through the first three quarters of last year, putting it about even with the $15.6 million allocated in 2014, according to Kantar Media. Since 2014, more than 60% of Universal Studios' budget has gone to broadcast, primarily spot TV buys. The remainder mostly supports outdoor and display ads. 

TV Breakdown: About $2.7 million supported three national TV flights (May-July 3, Sept-Nov.3 and December) last year (see targeting right), up from $1.5 million in 2014, iSpot.tv reports

Digital Breakdown: Last year, 130 standards ads, 15 high impact ads and three video ads ran on about 1,200 publishers (<1% mobile), 81% of which were placed programmatically versus site direct. Desktop activity was highest May-August 1 and mostly targeted news and entertainment publishers. Top sites included nbcnews.com, nbcsports.com, fandango.com, bravotv.com, syfy.com, travelandleisure.com and weather.com, according to Moat.

In contrast, video activity was highest in December and primarily targeted entertainment sites, led by YouTube.com.
