Score 57 – Close Watch: Learning Care Group appoints CMO
Subject: digital, print
Company: Learning Care Group (LCG), the second largest for-profit early education and childcare provider in North America. LCG’s brand include: Childtime, The Children’s Courtyard, La Petite Academy, Montessori Unlimited and Tutor Time.
Opportunity: Sean Sondreal has been named CMO of LCG. In this role, he’ll lead all marketing efforts by “effectively connecting” with customers to drive new enrollments and further strengthen customer loyalty throughout its brand portfolio. Franchise Chatter reports that the market for for-profit early education centers is growing rapidly due to parents’ increased focus on child development and education programs. Large players, it asserts, will respond by offering more personalized development services and technology-driven activities for children. Accordingly, pitch ideas to LCG that will separate the company’s brands from the herd. Sellers should look for increased digital opportunities in the future.
Experience: Sondreal joins from Bealls Department Stores, where he was CMO for just over three years. He has also served as CMO of Harbor Freight Tools and VP of strategic marketing at Kohl’s. He replaces John Lichtenberg, who left to become CMO of Fuel Leadership.
Competitors: Top competitors include Knowledge Universe, Bright Horizon Family Solutions, Primrose Schools, Nobel Learning Communities, Goddard Systems, Kiddie Academy Child Care Learning Centers, The Learning Experience and Bricks 4 Kids (owned by Creative Learning Corporation).
Digital Breakdown: According to Moat, LCG currently places digital ads for two of its brands: Tutor Time (TT) and La Petite Academy (LPA). So far this year, LCG has run nine standard display ads on 54 publishers for LPA and four creatives on 18 publishers for TT (both <1% mobile). For both brands, this is an increase over the same period in 2014 (note that TT ran no digital ads during that period).
Top ad destinations include – for LPA, mysanantonio.com, heraldtribune.com, thestate.com, cmt.com and postandcourier.com. – For TT, azlyrics.com, experienceproject.com, dramafever.com and epochtimes.com.
