Opportunity: CMG hired a new EVP with 18 years of industry experience, creating marketing for some of the biggest albums in recent memories. Look for CMG to expand traditional and digital marketing, as the entire music industry is in decline due to the rise of online music providers, such as Pandora and Spotify, as well as the rise of pirating and illegally downloading music.
Experience: Capitol Music Group has named Scott Greer as EVP, who will report to CEO Steve Barnett. As a member of Barnett’s executive team, Greer will oversee the companies operations in NYC, along with other EVPs, Michelle Jubelirer and Greg Thompson,. He most recently served as SVP of marketing at Columbia Records and will leverage his “extensive and industry-renowned” marketing expertise on key CMG artists and projects across the company’s portfolio of labels, including Capitol, Virgin and Motown.
He, along with Jubelirer, will also oversee Harvest Records, Blue Note, Astralwerks and Caroline, CMG’s independent services division.
Greer created and executed marketing plans for Adele’s 21 (2012 Grammy Winner – Album of the Year), Beyonce’s eponymous Dec. 2013 album (which was released as a surprise and was a phenomenally-kept secret) and Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories (2014 Grammy Winner – Album of the Year). Expect Greer to bring the same innovative ideas to his leadership/marketing position at CMG.
