LPL Financial axes CMO, shifts marketing to new division
Opportunity: The company is eliminating the CMO position held by Joan Khoury, who will leave the company in August after two years. Marketing functions will transfer to VP of Independent Adviser Services Mimi Brock, who was promoted to managing director for client experience and training.
Shift to Affiliate Training: LPL will focus more on new and existing financial adviser training efforts instead of traditional marketing. Affiliation will become a key focus for LPL’s new client experience and training initiatives.
Brock’s duties now include client communications, marketing support services, conference planning and training. Financial marketers engaging LPL should know the company has utilized both traditional and digital (including social media) channels to educate its adviser base.
Top Executive Departures: The transition follows Managing Director of Independent Adviser Services Derek Bruton’s Dwyer’s duties mostly transitioned to President Robert Moore.
Media Spending & Agency Relationship: LPL’s measured media spending declined to $2.4 million last year from $3.2 million in 2012, according to Kantar Media.
Note that last year, the company Bernstein-Rein Advertising, Inc. as its AOR last year. Duties included branding, adviser recruitment, social media, media planning and buying, and digital.
