Q4, H1 Media Opps Update – Starcom to take over Visa media in Q4?

Update (9/10): Looks like Publicis's Starcom is taking over the account from OMD sooner than we thought. We hear Starcom will handle Q4 planning, so start pitching the new team immediately versus waiting until H1. Also, as we assumed, it appears that Visa is coming out of the Publicis agency’s NYC office. We’ll keep you posted as we gain contacts on the account. 

Keep in mind that Starcom is supported by Essence will support programmatic on a project and regional basis.

Opportunity: Hired Publicis's here). At incumbent OMD, Visa was handled out of New York, so we'd expect the same at Starcom. We'll keep you posted as we learn more about who's transitioning to the new account.

This comes as more of Visa's budget moves to higher ROI digital (here). 

Sellers – keep a close eye on Starcom. After losing Coke, Visa's $200 million annual ad budget (half of which is spent in the US) is a nice addition. But, Kraft Foods' media review is looming, as well.

Incumbent: Omnicom's OMD has had the US account since 2005, according to The List.

Media Spend: Overall, Visa spent $900 million on marketing in the last fiscal year ended Sept. 30, up from $876 million in 2013, according to filings with the SEC.  The increase was due mainly to sponsorship support for the 2014 Winter Olympics and FIFA World Cup.  In the US, Visa allocated $113 million towards measured media last year, about 20% less than 2013, Kantar Media reports. Leading the way was broadcast, at about 80% of spending, followed by display, OOH and local radio.
