Digital, TV Opps: Travelers Insurance consolidates digital media at MediaVest

Q2 is Travelers’ top buying period, so MV will likely be busy over the next few weeks. However, it’s still worth making introductions now to secure potential last minute Q2 buys, along with Q3 and Q4 dollars. Keep in mind that Travelers’ new campaign, the first from new creative AOR here), appears to be targeting a wider (read: younger, less Boomer men focused) male and female consumer mix than the insurer has gone after in the past. Also, the insurer’s video ad presence was much higher in Dec-Jan compared to past years. 

Additional Insight

Media Spend: Travelers' spent $28.6 million on measured media through Q3 last year, about even with the $36.5 million allocated for all of 2014. About half of last year’s ad budget supported display ads. The remaining half went mostly to network TV, cable TV and magazine placements.

TV Breakdown: Since June 26, when the new TV ads broke, $4.8 million has supported the campaign (see breakdown right), almost all of which has gone to PGA Tour related programming. This makes sense considering the insurer has title sponsorship for the Travelers Championship and is the “Official Property Casualty Insurance Provider of the PGA TOUR, and Champions Tour.”

This is a huge jump in spending over the prior year period, when only $760,000 supported national TV placements, reports.

Digital Breakdown: During the same period over the last year, banners, high impact and video ads have appeared on 1,501 publishers (<1 mobile), 78% of which were placed programmatically versus site direct.
