Company: Schnuck Markets, the St. Louis, Mo.-based grocery chain with locations throughout the Midwest celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.
Opportunity: The company has named a new CEO and CMO this year, so look for print, out-of-home and omnichannel opps as the chain looks to capitalize on its “family heritage” to reach a broader customer base.
Experience: Schnuck Markets has announced that the chain’s new CMO will be Andrew Nadin. In his new role, Nadin will be responsible for all advertising, marketing and omnichannel and customer research. He will report to COO Anthony Hucker. Prior to joining Schnuck, Nadin was CEO of APN Consultancy, a brand marketing firm in the UK, and has also worked at Mars, Aldi and Scottish & Newcastle.
The grocer also named a new CEO this year: Todd Schnuck took over the top spot in March, after his older brother, Scott Schnuck, retired.
PR Issues: Like every other large retailer (it seems), Schnuck also experienced a data breach within the last year and is dealing with the PR fallout from it. In August, the company settled the lawsuits stemming from the breach.
Media Spend: According to Kantar Media, Schnuck spent $2.3 million on measured media last year – an 8.2% increase from 2012. Over half, $1.6 million, was allocated to print ads, specifically newspapers.
