Checkers expands in current, new markets


The Research
Fast-food burger chain Checkers Drive-In Restaurants, Inc., has announced new growth in major metropolitan cities as part of its strategic expansion strategy to add locations in existing markets and new regions nationwide.
 
This initial growth includes signed agreements with four franchisees to develop 12 new restaurants in Detroit, Philadelphia, Baltimore and New York during the next several years.
 
“We're excited to start 2011 with a full pipeline of new restaurants planned for development in our key markets,” Chief Development Officer Lynette McKee said in a prepared statement. “Checkers' success and continued growth stems from our passionate franchisees who provide incredibly craveable food and high-quality customer service to our guests every day.”
 
The eatery is also seeking to add several new development agreements in key markets such as New York; Atlanta; Boston; Charlotte, N.C.; Providence, R.I.; and Orlando, Fla.
 
With more than 800 Checkers and Rally’s branded restaurants nationwide, Tampa, Fla.-headquartered Checkers Drive-In Restaurants is the largest double drive-thru restaurant chain in the United States.
 
New York-based ML Rogers has served as Checkers and Rally’s creative agency of record since 2007, The List database reports.
 
The restaurant chain also contracts Tampa-based Pyper Paul + Kenney, Inc., for its media buying and planning.
 
According to The Nielsen Company, Checkers Drive-In Restaurants allocated $40.1 million towards measured media in 2009. The company spent about $35.8 million on television spots, about $2.2 million on B-to-B initiatives and about $1.4 million on outdoor ads.
