Yum Brands opens Vietnamese fast-casual concept
Subject: traditional, print, outdoor, experiential, social media
Company: Yum! Brands, owns, franchises and licenses a number of restaurants worldwide, most notably Pizza Hut, KFC and Taco Bell.
Opportunity: Yum! Brands has opened another fast-casual concept in the face of declining fast-food traffic. Look for print, outdoor and social media opportunities as the new Vietnamese-concept grows and also be on the lookout for Yum! Brands to try other concepts if this turn towards fast-casual takes off for the company.
New Concept Launch: Yum! Brands is testing a new Vietnamese-inspired fast-casual concept in Dallas. Banh Shop will serve Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches and bowls, noodle salad ad sides like “Saigon ‘Street Stall’ Corn.” One location has opened in Dallas’ Park Cities neighborhood and a second location is scheduled to open at the Dall-Fort Worth International airport later in Sept.
Target Customers: With Southwest Asian cuisine and a desire for fresh ingredients growing in popularity, the target customers are millennials. The decline in fast-food traffic has pushed the company into trying out a number of new fast-casual chains, such as Super Chix in Arlington, Tex. Fast food traffic was flat to last year, while fast-casual concepts saw an average of 8% growth in traffic.
Competitors: While Banh Shop will compete with other “”customizable ethnic” fast-casual chains generally, and with Chipotle’s own Vietnamese-concept,here).
