TV Media Opps Update: Golden Corral hires creative AOR, promotes CEO amid sagging sales
Update (1/9): Lance Trenary, who has been with Golden Corral 29 years and served as COO since 2011, has been appointed president and CEO. He’s only the third CEO of Golden Corral, which opened its first restaurant in 1973 and has grown to 501 locations in 41 states. He takes on his new role amid stagnant sales over the past two years after a record 2012, when system-wide sales reached $1.8 billion.
Trenary told The News & Observer that he plans to build on brand staples, such as variety and value, working to expand GC’s reach beyond the buffet segment and pull in customers visiting competing casual dining and family restaurants. Much focus will be on emphasizing the company’s healthy eating options, finding ways to customize food preparation for customers and possibility expanding outside of the US as soon as 2016. About three months ago, GC launched program that put 20 fresh vegetables on the buffet line.
