Furniture brand Knoll names prez, COO
Furniture manufacturer Knoll North America has appointed a new executive to head North American operations, according to the company
Lynn Utter, formerly chief strategy officer at Coors Brewing Company, joins East Greenville, Pa.-based Knoll as president and chief operating officer, effective on or about March 3.
Utter joined Coors in 1997, previously serving as vice president, sales operations at Frito-Lay Company. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and her MBA from Stanford University.
Knoll designs, manufactures and markets furniture and textiles for home and work environments. The company offers furniture in five categories: files and storage, office systems, specialty products, seating and desks.

Kawitzky said that Utter will lead all of Knoll’s North American business, reporting to Chief Executive Officer Andrew Cogan.
As Utter has not arrived at the company, Kawitzky said that it is too early to determine what she’ll be doing precisely, but said that she’ll “basically be focused on driving business.”
Knoll’s current strategy in driving awareness among consumers and businesses includes Web communications, advertising in trade publications and shelter magazines and leveraging media coverage, Kawitzky said. David Bright, vice president of communications, oversees the company’s marketing strategies.
Utter succeeds Kass Bradley, who is retiring after 30 years working at Knoll. Bradley will work with Utter in a transition period lasting until May 23, but will remain a director on the company’s board.
According to The List database, Knoll has no creative agency relationships.
Nielsen Monitor-Plus reports that the company spent about $150,000 on media in 2006. About $90,000 was spent on local magazine, about $20,000 was spent on national newspapers and about $20,000 was spent on local newspapers.
