New agency, media opps: Newly formed furniture company Heritage Home Group hires CMO, retail, tec...
Heritage Home Group (formerly Furniture Brands International), the parent company of the Broyhill, Thomasville, Lane and Henredon furniture brands, has hired Roxanne Bernstein to the newly created position of chief marketing officer to handle all strategic marketing and communications.
New CMO hires are typically a sign of upcoming spending and agency changes, but the probability of both occurring goes up considerably when a first-time marketing chief comes on board after a recent acquistion. Therefore, start engaging Bernstein now to you're on the shortlist for new revenue opportunities, which should ramp up soon given the hires of a new retail SVP and chief technology officer, as well.
Most recently, Bernstein was SVP of Marketing at Cessna Aircraft Company, but she brings vast consumer marketing experience to Heritage Home. Before Cessna, Bernstein was senior marketing director for Kraft’s beverage concentrates and refreshment beverages and Kellogg’s senior brand manager for the kids ready-to-eat portfolio, which comprises Frosted Flakes and Apple Jacks.
This experience will be key as Heritage Home works to engage a post-recession younger customer base that is ready to spend more on furniture. As such, integrated traditional advertising digital, social, ad-tech and interactive in-store experiences will be essential, so focus your approach there.
Last year, furniture retailers reported their best year since the start of the recession in 2007, with sales up 7 to 9 percent in 2013 and by double digits in affluent locations. Furniture Today reports that by 2015 and 2016 homebuilding and home sales should be back to pre-recession levels, along with measurable increases in consumers’ disposable income, which should lead to higher interest in making new furniture purchases.
Bernstein will report to CEO Ira Glazer, along with new SVP of Retail Lynda Stout, who came over from Ethan Allen where she was VP of retail.
Additionally, new Chief Technology Officer Tod Phelps reports to CFO Jeff Zappone. He previously was chief marketing officer and partner at Mortgage Contracting Services.
These new hires come after KPS Capital acquired almost all of the assets of Furniture Brands International in a bankruptcy action last fall, so marketing spend should go up given the capital infusion. Also, the company comapny.
