TV, Radio, Digital Opps: Arkansas Tourism approves Spring/Summer 2016 budget, plan
Subject: TV , digital, social, mobile, outdoor, print, radio, magazine
Company: Arkansas Dept. of Parks & Tourism (ADPT), located in Little Rock, is the state’s tourism agency.
Opportunity: Approved the 2016 Spring/Summer advertising and marketing proposal presented by Aristotle, interactive/digital AOR. The $6.7 million plan includes TV, online, radio, magazine, OOH and print (newspaper) advertising. It will also include public-private partnerships, PR support and industry outreach. This represents the bulk of 2016′s spend and most ads will be run in the spring, so sellers should reach out now to secure ad dollars across multiple channels. Note that the plan calls for increased spending in “newer” channels, so digital, social and mobile will likely receive the brunt of the $6.7 million budget.
Campaign Specifics: According to a press release, TV ads will run on broadcast and cable and also on Hulu digital TV, PBS digital TV and connected TV, such as Yume, Roku, Crackle and Centro Video Audience Targeting. Note that there will be general interest ads, as well as ads that target bicyclists, motorcyclists, outdoor enthusiasts and arts and history lovers. Also, the Commission saw research on travel consumer decision-making that concluded the following: 60% of travel decision makers are female, 40% use social media in trip planning, 41% use smartphones to access travel information and 31% use official destination websites.
Target Markets: Target out-of-state marketing include: Illinois, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas. 2014 travel expenditures increased to $6.7 billion from $6.3 billion in 2013.
Media Spend: According to Kantar Media, ADPT spent $6.7 million on measured media in 2014 – up 9.3% from 2013.
