Pharma giant Bristol-Myers Squibb makes executive shifts


The Story
Bristol-Myers Squibb announced a number of changes within its organization, specifically the promotion of Lamberto Andreotti as the new president and chief operating officer, according to TheStreet.com.
 
Andreotti has been with New York-based Bristol-Myers Squibb for 11 years. From 2002 to 2005, he served as a corporate senior vice president, and international president of the Worldwide Medicines Group.
 
From 2005 to 2007, Andreotti served as executive vice president of worldwide pharmaceuticals, and in May 2007, he was named executive vice president and chief operating officer.
 
Bristol-Myers Squibb is a leading global provider of pharmaceuticals and health care products. The company researches, develops and manufactures pharmaceuticals for a range of diseases and conditions affecting children, adults and the elderly.
 
The Research
Andreotti will maintain leadership responsibility for Bristol-Myers Squibb’s global pharmaceuticals, technical operations and global marketing, and will add oversight of information management on a global scale.
 
In his new position, he’ll continue to report to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer James Cornelius.
 
“Lamberto’s leadership has been an integral part of our recent global commercial success, and of our transformation to a global BioPharma leader,” Cornelius said in a statement.
 
Additionally, Dr. Elliott Sigal has been promoted to the role of EVP and chief scientific officer and president of research and development, and Jean-Marc Huet was upped to the role of EVP and chief financial officer. Both will also continue to report to Cornelius.
 
This new leadership team will serve as the senior strategy and decision-making body of the company. This group will handle almost all tasks ranging from commercializing products to aligning the company’s strategy.
 
According to The List database, Toronto-based Antibody Healthcare Communications and Princeton, N.J.-based Winning Edge Communications has handled some of Bristol-Myers Squibb’s communication efforts since 2006 and 2005, respectively.
 
The pharmaceutical giant spent about $117.6 million on national advertising in 2007, The Nielsen Company reported. About $61.3 million was spent on cable television, $19 million was spent on national magazine ads and $18.9 million was spent on network television ads.
 
The Direction
Due to Bristol-Myers Squibb’s reorganization in an effort to better “align the company’s strategy,” there could be a potential opportunity for interested agencies to reach out for project work, or to engage in a mutually beneficial partnership that could highlight one of the company’s multiple pharmaceutical products.
