Campaign Imminent: NorCal's Sutter Health hires Arnold amid outpatient care shift

Opportunity: Hired Havas’ partly to the Affordable Care Act. So, healthcare is evolving from a hospital-driven business into a retail consumer business, thus look for Sutter’s consumer marketing approach to change accordingly. For example, check out the TV ad it already launched last year (see above).
As such, a new consumer focused campaign should launch for the second half of the year, when Sutter historically runs the majority of its advertising. This timing will also allow it to be top-of-mind during the next ACA open enrollment period (Nov. 1-Jan. 31, 2017).
Therefore, Northern California sellers should start going after new campaign ad dollars now. TV and radio dominate Sutter’s ad presence but look for its small digital presence to rise this year as it goes after the coveted millennial demographic. Media has been handled in-house but we’re not sure if that’s the case still. We’ll keep you posted.
Media Spend: Sutter spent $9.6 million on measured media last year, up 8% from $8.9 million in 2014, according to Kantar Media. Spot TV and national spot radio made up most of the budget, followed by outdoor and newspapers.
Digital Breakdown: During the past 12 months, 71 standard, 14 high impact and one video ad have appeared on about 200 publishers (<1% mobile), 70% of which was placed site direct versus programmatically. Desktop is running mostly on local news sites like goldenstatenewspaper.com, kqed.org, 7×7.com, marinij.com, triplicate.com and sfgate.com, according to Moat.
Video has only appeared on cbslocal.com.
New Decision Maker: The move to Arnold comes after former University of Phoenix CMO Arra Yerganian was appointed chief marketing and branding officer in August.
