Q4, Q2 Media Opps: Church & Dwight reviews media planning, buying
Subject: TV, digital, online, magazine, radio, Spanish language TV, sponsorship
Company: Winmo profile)
Sellers - This review comes as as C&D increases annual ad spend to grow its mega brands (Arm & Hammer, Trojan, Oxiclean and the vitamin business) and moves more budget to digital (research here). In fact, 80% of fiscal 2015 media investment is slated to go to these mega brands. We’ll keep you posted when we learn where the account is going. In the meantime, continue to focus your approach on C&D’s power brands, because they receive the majority of ad support.
Focus particularly on OxiClean and Trojan. Oxiclean continues to benefit from higher ad support, as it expands into new categories: laundry detergent, bleach and dishwashing (research here). On the contrary, market share leader Trojan is facing headwinds in the flat condom category, leading Craigie to remark during the Q2 earnings call, “If I had one wish in life, I’d wish to get the Trojan category growing.” To spur demand, Trojan has new product launches and marketing programs on the way. This makes me wonder if Trojan will review creative soon.
Incumbent: Maxus, part of WPP’s Group M, had had the account for 10 years, according to The List.
Media Spend: C&D spent $393.4 million on measured media last year, down 6% from $420.7 million in 2013, according to Kantar Media. TV makes up the bulk of budget, followed by magazine, Spanish language network TV, display and radio.
