ACCO office supplies hires Corporate Marketing, Product exec


The Story
Global branded office products supplier ACCO has added Tom Tedford to its executive team in the role of senior vice president of corporate marketing and product development, according to the company.
 
Tedford brings with him an extensive background in sales, marketing, business development and general management to his new role at the Lincolnshire, Ill.-based company.
 
With background in the office products industry, he most recently served as group VP for client services at APAC Customer Services, which provides high-volume telephone-based sales, marketing and customer management services to large companies.
 
Tedford also served in various sales and sales leadership positions of increasing responsibility in the Business Services Division of Office Depot, and was director of new business development and strategy at the Sam’s Club division of Walmart.
 
He began his career as a sales representative with Wallace Computer Services.
 
ACCO Brands Corporation is a global leader in select categories of branded office products. The company’s portfolio includes Day-Timer, Swingline, Kensington, Quartet, GBC, Rexel, NOBO and Wilson Jones.
 
The Research
Reporting directly to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Robert Keller, Tedford will lead global marketing and brand strategy initiatives, Web strategy and social responsibility programs.
 
“Tom is a dynamic executive who brings a wealth of knowledge from the office products industry and mass merchandise channel,” Keller said in a statement. “Our dual commitments to creative marketing solutions for our customers, and to new product development, will intensify as we benefit from his insights.”
 
Additionally, his responsibilities include new product development as well as overall management efforts for ACCO’s current product portfolio.
 
Tedford’s addition comes shortly after ACCO reported its first quarter earnings results for the period ended March 31. Net sales increased six percent to $310.8 million, compared to $293.4 million in the prior-year quarter.
 
Corporate Communications VP Rich Nelson told DailyVista that it is entirely too premature to discuss Tedford’s new position at ACCO.
 
He went on to say that Tuesday was Tedford’s first day in the office, and recommended giving him a chance to get up and running in his new role prior to making contact.
 
“With the exception of our Kensington Computer Products Group, most of our marketing communications efforts have been B-to-B, and we don’t disclose our marketing spend,” Nelson said.
 
Our source added that ACCO does not have any agencies of record at this time.
 
According to The List database, Saint Louis, Mo.-based Momentum handles sales promotions for ACCO’s Kensington brand.
 
The Nielsen Company reported that ACCO spent about $12,000 on B-to-B media in 2009.
