Experience: PulteGroup as hired ex-Coca-Cola exec Manish Shrivastava as VP and CMO. Shrivastava will report to the EVP of homebuilding operations and be responsible for leading marketing strategy, consumer insights and marketing communications across the company’s portfolio of brands, which includes Pulte Homes, Centex, Del Webb and DiVosta Homes. He will be charged with leading branding within communities across the country as  well as the company’s online presence to highlight the entire consumer experience from shopping to construction to enjoying a new home.

Challenging Environment: The homebuilding industry experienced strong sales in the first half of 2013 but momentum began to slow in the third quarter and then stall in the fourth quarter. Residential investment, including construction of single-family and multifamily homes, residential remodeling, and brokers' fees, accounted for 3.1 percent of gross domestic product in Q4, less than half the peak contribution of 6.6 percent in 2006, Bloomberg Businessweek reports. However, homebuilders are anticipating a more normal housing market in 2014, including rising home sale prices, so marketing efforts should continue to rise.
