The Talbots apparel co. elevates Merchandise Manager
Women’s retailer The Talbots Inc. announced the promotion of Lizanne Kindler to the role of executive vice president and general merchandise manager, according to the company
Kindler had previously served as Talbots’ senior VP of merchandising and general merchandise manager, since joining the Hingham, Mass-based company in January 2008.
Prior to Talbots, she was SVP & general merchandising manager of Ann Taylor Loft, where she was responsible for merchandising.
The Talbots Inc. is a leading specialty retailer and direct marketer of women’s apparel, shoes and accessories.
At the end of fourth quarter 2009, The Talbots Inc. operated 580 Talbots brand stores in 46 U.S. states, the District of Columbia and Canada.
In her new role, Kindler will oversee the merchandise strategy and direction for Talbots core apparel, shoe and accessories businesses across all channels
. She will report to Chief Executive Officer Trudy Sullivan.
“Since joining Talbots two years ago, Lizanne’s leadership skills, vision for the brand’s potential and empathy for our customer's point of view have made a significant impact to our organization,” Sullivan said in a statement.
Kindler has also been instrumental in the revitalization of Talbots’ merchandising strategy and merchant team. Sullivan expressed confidence in Kindler’s ability to continue to elevate the Talbots brand and product portfolio.
At the end of February, The Talbots neared completion of its acquisition of BPW Acquisition Corp. Talbots believes the merger will provide it with the solid financial foundation needed to position the company to achieve its long-term growth objectives and create value for all of its shareholders.
According to a recent filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Sullivan will receive a $1.5 million incentive award upon completion of the merger with BPW Acquisition Corp.
Just prior to publicizing its purchase deal, Talbots announced that it expects “stronger-than-anticipated operating results for the fiscal fourth quarter,” which ended Jan. 30, 2010.
Talbots is currently scheduled to report fourth quarter and fiscal year 2009 results on April 13.
According to The List database, New York-based Berns Communications Group has handled The Talbots Inc.’s public relations initiatives since 2007, New York-based Publicis USA has handled its advertising efforts also since 2007 and Livonia, Mich.-based Valassis has done its direct marketing, printing and direct mail since 2006.
The Nielsen Company reported that The Talbots spent about $2 million on national advertising in 2008. About $1.1 million was spent on local newspaper ads, about $350,000 was spent on outdoor ads and about $210,000 was spent on national newspaper ads.
