H1 Media Opps: Xerox launches new ad campaign

Company: Xerox, Norwalk, Conn.-based business process and document management company

Opportunity: Debuted its first campaign in two years Sunday afternoon during the US Open tennis tournament,  which Xerox is sponsoring. ”Work Can Work Better,” by WPP’s Xaxis.

Agencies – we’re monitoring the results/ROI from this campaign closely since new CMO John Kennedy surprisingly didn’t take Xerox into review  when he was hired last summer (research services business (the future of the company in a cloud-based world – goodbye hardware like copiers and printers) should signal a review by Q2. 

Additional Insight

Media Spend: Last year, Xerox spent $20.6 million on measured media, down 33% from $31.5 million in 2013. The bulk of last year’s budget was split between broadcast and display ads, with magazine buys making up most of the remainder. 

TV Breakdown: So far this year, about $1.7 million has supported one national TV flight from the middle of May to the end of June (see targeting right), down from almost $3 million over the same period last year. For all of 2014 $5.4 million went to national TV compared to $1.3 million in 2013, according to

Digital Breakdown: Since January, 61 display ads have run on 2,849 publishers (<1% mobile), 90% of which were placed programmatically instead of site direct. Activity, at its highest levels February-April, has mostly targeted local paper publishers.  Xerox’s six video ads this year have run on 55 publishers, primarily local/large paper and sports sites, Moat reports.
