New CEO for G&K Services Inc.
G&K Services Inc., a provider of work-related clothing and uniforms, announced the departure of its longtime chief executive officer, according to the Twin Cities Business Journal
Douglas Milroy takes over the leadership position from Richard Marcantonio, effective immediately. Marcantonio had served as the Minneapolis-based company’s CEO for seven years, and is leaving G&K Services to pursue other opportunities..
Milroy was previously president, direct purchase and business development for G&K Services, a role he’d held since 2006. Before that, Milroy was vice president and general manager, food and beverage North America and water care for Ecolab Inc.
“I’m excited by this opportunity and I’m well-prepared to lead G&K Services,” Milroy said in a company release. “G&K has a talented and experienced management team, a solid financial base and a strong foundation for growth.”
G&K Services is a leading manufacturer of branded identity apparel programs and facility services, serving more than 175,000 customers in the United States and Canada. The company rents and sells equipment and uniforms to suit a wide variety of service industries.
’ Director of Investor Relations Shayn Carlson gave WinmoEdge more information on the company’s plans moving forward under Milroy’s leadership.
He said that Milroy’s appointment is just one week old, but some of his initial priorities include leading the company through the difficult economic period, and improving G&K’s operating performance.
“As he moves longer-term, he’ll further position the company for sustainable and profitable growth,” Carlson said.
According to Carlson, G&K Services is still determining the fate of Milroy’s vacated position, and he wasn’t sure whether a new executive would step in to handle business development.
The economy is currently the largest challenge for G&K Services, Carlson said. Since G&K Services is a B-to-B operation, the economic condition has an effect on employment levels, thusly impacting the number of uniforms and services the company manufactures.
To put its brand name in front of prospective clients, Carlson said that G&K utilizes a number of strategies for marketing, including specialized, patented functional garments for specific industries, strategic alliances with branded clothing manufactures and other tactics.
“The vision is not going to change (under Milroy) but we’ve not gone into detail for marketing and sales yet,” he said. “We’ll continue to support and selectively invest in sales and marketing because it fuels our business, but we’ve got to further evaluate our strategy.”
Carlson was not certain of G&K Service’s current agency relationships, but he said the company does have an internal team as well.
G&K Services is very much in transition mode right now, but firms with B-to-B experience in a wide range of industries may be of interest to the company as Milroy further settles himself into the CEO position. Put the company on a long-term prospect list until it sorts out its operational goals.
