The Story
Staffing service Manpower Inc. appointed a new global marketing executive, according to the company.
 
Effective Feb. 15, Emma van Rooyen will join the company as vice president of global marketing. She was most recently principal at global management consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton and since 2002 helped lead the company’s global marketing.

Van Rooyen has also led marketing at Deloitte Consulting LLP and at the entertainment division of PricewaterhouseCoopers. She received a dual bachelor’s degree in English and philosophy from the University of South Africa, and an MBA in International Business from the Open University Business School in London.
 
“I am confident that her experience in creating new marketing strategies and outreach programs … will serve her well as we continue to grow into our new, contemporary brand,” Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Joerres said in a statement.

The Research
Manpower Inc.’s President and Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Joerres spoke with DailyVista and detailed the company’s current marketing strategy.
 
Van Rooyen will be responsible for “all facets” of communications, Jorres said.
 
“We’ve made aggressive changes. We’ve changed the entire look and feel of the company, and Emma’s charged with taking that to the next level,” he said.
 
Joerres said that with van Rooyen in tow, capitalizing on emerging online marketing strategies will be an important part of Manpower’s marketing.
 
“It’s an important part of the strategy because if you look at the use of the Web in general, one of the top five uses in the country has a relation to jobs or careers,” he said. “We’re looking to really bring in the social networking and community networking as it relates to careers.”
 
Joerres said that Manpower’s marketing mix is full scale, and includes television, print and viral strategies. However, it varies depending on the geography and brand it represents. 
 
Manpower’s target customer base ranges from all sides of the payscale – from hourly employees to upwards of six figures. The Jefferson Wells division is geared to high end CPAs; Elan Group reaches out to IT professionals and Right Management offers career transition services.
 
“What Emma’s responsibilities will be is to make sure that the assets of each of those brands is maximized,” Jorres said.
 
Manpower works with several different agencies for each of its brands and the company regularly receives and reviews approaches from agencies, Joerres said. London firm Wolff Olins handled its recent rebranding.
 
The Direction

The company is aiming to get a strong foothold in the Web 2.0 career landscape, so present ideas that will draw both employers and employees to any of its sites. Manpower may also look to hear from public relations firms that can generate buzz about its services in the appropriate publications and Web sites.
