NFL's Philadelphia Eagles, Chief Marketer part ways
The chief marketing officer of the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles’ has become the latest front office executive to leave the team.
Tim McDermott (pictured right), who became CMO in 2010, and the team said in separate statements that the split was amicable. McDermott is still listed on the Eagles’ website as CMO this morning.
According to the team, McDermott was responsible for strategizing and managing all marketing, advertising, merchandising, digital , media, broadcasting and brand extension.
Previously, McDermott was the CMO for the NHL’s Washington Capitals from 2006-2010, after serving as the Eagles senior director of marketing for almost three years, according to his.
McDermott is just the latest executive to leave the team. Director of Communications Rob Zieger was fired last week and team president Joe Banner stepped down in June.
Banner, who was president during the Eagles run of five straight NFC Championships and one Super Bowl appearance, chief executive officer of the Cleveland Browns last month.
Longtime Eagles executive Don Smolenski was promoted to president in June after serving as chief operating officer since 2010. He joined the team in 1998 as chief financial officer.
With the loss against the Carolina Panthers last night, the Eagles are 3-8 and last in the NFC East, after an 8-8 season last year. Owner Jeffrey Lurie said before the season that the Eagles needed to show “substantial improvement’ upon last season for Head Coach Andy Reid to return for a 15th season.
The List reports that the Eagles handle its media in-house.
The team allocated $1.3 million towards measured media last year, consistent with its spending in 2010.
