New Biz Brief: Packers hire new marketing VP, promote biz dev, sales VP
Team: new marketing and corporate sales office opening in Milwaukee to provided enhanced service to partners in the area.
Opportunity: Hired Gabrielle Valdez Dow as vice president of marketing and fan engagement. She was the Baltimore Ravens’ VP of marketing since 2006. Additionally, the Packers have promoted team veteran Craig Benzel from director of marketing and corporate sales to VP of sales and business development
Key to Know: Dow, with 20 years’ of professional sports and entertainment experience, is responsible for retail operations, media group, brand engagement and game-day entertainment.
Benzel, who joined the Packers 16 years ago, now leads corporate sales, premium seating, ticketing, food and beverage, events, the Packers Hall of Fame and guest services.
At the Ravens, Dow oversaw the team's marketing, promotions, sponsor activations, brand management, game entertainment and fan affinity efforts. For example, she created ‘Purple,' a first-ever female fan club that has grown to 25,000 members and remains the only club of its kind in pro sports, according to a statement.
Agency Relationship: Green Bay-based The Karma Group has handled the Packers creative and media since 2008, according to The List.
Media Spend: The team allocated $1.1 million towards measured media last year, down from $1.5 million in 2012 and $1.4 million in 2011. For the last three years the majority of dollars have gone to display ads.
