Struggling flash storage company Violin Memory appoints CMO after reorganization
Troubled enterprise focused flash storage company Violin Memory has appointed Eric Herzog as CMO and SVP of business development. Reporting to Kevin DeNuccio, president and CEO, his responsibilities include overseeing all worldwide product marketing, technical marketing, channel marketing, corporate communications and global business development, according to a statement.
Violin Memory, which has struggled much since its September IPO, plans to continue enhancing marketing and business development capabilities with the addition of Herzog and after a agency and spending changes during their first three-to-six months on the job, so start engaging Herzog now.
Note that the Santa Clara, Calif.-based company recently reorganized its global marketing, sales and engineering functions to sharpen focus on core segments within the flash-based storage market after firing CEO Don Basile in December. Violin expects to complete its core market review by the end of the first quarter, which should lead to higher spending in certain segments as the company cuts back in slow growth areas.
Kevin DeNuccio became president and CEO in February to lead the turnaround of Violin, one of the worst performing IPOs of 2013.
Most recently, Herzog was SVP of marketing for competitor EMC‘s Enterprise and Mid-Range Systems Division, where he was responsible for marketing the VNX, VMAX and VNXe family of storage solutions.
