Autodesk launches 'cloud-based alternative'
a provider of 3D design, engineering and entertainment software, has launched PLM 360 – touted as a cloud-based, project lifecycle management solution for managing product information and processes.
It’s just one of many initiatives on the launch pad for Autodesk, who have also just been nominated by San Francisco Business Times as No. 3 on the.
Autodesk is pushing out the next wave of its cloud solutions with a new “alternative.” Autodesk PLM 360 is a cloud-based, project lifecycle management (thus, PLM) solution designed to better enable companies to manage product information and processes to continuously improve the products they manufacture.
Autodesk reps cited a recent stat published by global research firm IDC, which estimated that the PLM software market will grow to $20.5 billion by 2015.
Thus, Autodesk is getting in at the ground floor quickly with hopes of “shaking up the very small population of legacy PLM solution providers” with new cloud-based products being released at a “fraction of the cost” made available from competitors. Besides the budget-friendly angle, the other advertised alternative to Autodesk PLM 360 is that it is boasted to be the “first cloud-based PLM solution focused on business applications beyond engineering and bill of material management.”
Other aspects include an always-on and easier-to-configure interface that can be customized to customer needs and product lifecycles. For example, users can create and customize their own apps with drag-and-drop functionality, and the platform comes with dozens of pre-installed apps already.
