Digital Opps: Domain registry VeriSign retains global PR AOR amid marketing boost

Company: generic top-level domains (gTLDs). The Reston, Va.-based company added 1.15 million new net names to the .com and .net registry in Q3, finishing the period with 130 million active domains. 

Opportunity: Retained Interpublic’s ICANN is introducing new gTLDs with the goal of enhancing competition and consumer choice. Therefore, continue to approach with strategies that will help VeriSign increase marketing ROI and better engage registrars, companies like GoDaddy that purchase web domains.

Additional Insight

Marketing Priorities: The majority of VeriSign's programs focus on registrars and driving brand awareness. CFO George Kilguss said in July that Verisign continues to evaluate ROI, adding that some programs have done well but others need tweaking. 

Media Spend: VeriSign allocated $13.2 million towards advertising last year, up from $10.2 million in 2012 but down from $17.2 million in 2011. The majority of spend goes to online channels, with search leading the way, according to Kantar Media. The company also utilizes TV, print and direct mail.
