Therefore, as we’ve reported (research here) aren’t wasting any time working to revive Sprint’s sagging subscriber base. Look for higher ad dollars to continue supporting aggressive promotions in H2 and 2016, with a particular focus on millennials and young Hispanics. 

Additional Insight

Higher Hispanic Spending: Claure said that Sprint is committed to “engaging, connecting and providing wireless services to the Hispanic customer.” Research from the Pew Research Center shows that the spending power of the US Hispanic market is estimated at $1.2 trillion and Sprint's research shows that Hispanics spend the most on their mobile phones. To this end, the company recently named Roger Solé to the newly created role of SVP of the Hispanic market and SVP of innovation (research here).

Since 2012, Sprint has spent about $50 million on Hispanic media annually, skewing towards Spanish language network TV ads,  Kantar Media reports. Since Claure's arrival in August, has become one of Sprint's top desktop display and network TV ad settings, according to Moat. Univision doesn't appear at all when comparing this period to the same timeframe a year ago, so strategy certainly is changing.  

 National TV Spend: According to iSpot, Sprint spent $558.7 million on national TV ads in 2014. This year, Sprint has allocated $239.2 million to national TV ads. The most money was spent to air ads on NBC, ABC, FOX, CBS, TNT and Univision during programming such as “NBA Basketball,” “The Voice,” “2015 NCAA Basketball Tournament,” “The 2015 Oscars” and “NFL Football.” While this is about $70 million less spent than the same period in 2014, strategy appears to be the same, with similar big buys remaining (sports, The Oscars, “The Voice”). The only difference is the appearance of Univision in the top five networks.
