Opportunity: In an attempt to go after what AVP of Marketing Lee Borughton described as a “burgeoning market,” Enterprise Rent-a-Car is launching its first Spanish-language ad campaign this week, complete with TV spots and point-of-sale and other marketing materials. The 30-second TV spots, which will air on Telemundo and Univision, use the tag “Vamos Por Ti,” or “We’ll Come For You” (I know it’s supposed to highlight Enterprise’s infamous “We’ll Pick You Up” tag, but you can’t deny it’s decidedly creepier when translated into English). The ad is set to initially air in six US markets in Texas and New Mexico, but there is always room for expansion, said Broughton. So while ad dollars may not be available for the first wave of the campaign, keep your eye on Enterprise as it begins its attempt to gain more of the Hispanics market share (Enterprise estimates it has only 26-27% of Hispanic rental car drivers).
Competitors: Avis Budget Group and The Hertz Corporation are Enterprise's biggest competitors, though Enterprise does claim to be the largest.
Media Spend: According to Kantar Media, Enterprise Rent-a-Car spent $57.4 million on measured media through Q3 2014 (this represents 94% of 2013′s total spend, $60.9 million). Note that Q1/Q2 are traditionally Enterprise’s highest spend quarters. While most was spent on broadcast, digital ads did receive $6.3 million through Q3 2014.
According to iSpot.tv, full year national TV spend for 2014 totaled $54 million, almost double 2013′s $24.4 million.
