Digital, TV, Print Opps: Ad spending already up for Hilton's largest campaign

Opportunity: Ad spending levels are already way up for “Stop Clicking Around,” the largest campaign in the hotelier’s 97 year history.  Created by LA and UK offices most likely), the campaign uses broadcast, digital and billboards to encourage consumers to book directly through Hilton instead of on third-party sites, as well as joining the Hilton HHonors program.

The hotel chain, like so many others, is targeting millennials with this campaign. This is demonstrated by Hilton through a big digital push, specifically towards the growth of its mobile app, but also by the large budget it invests into the platform. For instance, in 2015 Hilton allocated over $100 million to digital alone.

Therefore, digital sellers should continue making introductions in case Hilton decides to move or add new campaign placements. Outside of the new campaign, Hilton’s ad budget is already sizable one and has risen since 2013. So be on the lookout for traditional ad dollars, as well. Sellers with experience reaching millennial travelers will have an advantage here.

Media Spend: According to Kantar Media, Hilton’s total media spend (through Q3) for 2015 was $121 million, up $30 million compared to the same period in 2014. Spending was divided up between mostly digital, followed by print, broadcast, radio, outdoor and Hispanic media.

TV Breakdown: Since January, Hilton has spent $8.7 million on national TV spend, up $3.2 million compared to all of 2015, iSpot reports. Cable TV takes up the largest portion of the spending, followed by spot, network and a Spanish language TV, according to Kantar. 

Digital Breakdown: According to , so far in 2016, Hilton has run 635 standard display, 82 high impact and 13 video ads on 3,085 publishers. Publishers included news and travel sites such as,,,,, and

Of these, 23% were placed site direct versus programmatic.
