Millennial Media Opps: Toyo Tires launches new campaign to boost mainstream appeal


 

Model." They use tongue-in-cheek humor to appeal to a more mainstream audience, but still emphasize the importance of quality tires (safety and performance play). 

In the past, Toyo's marketing has primarily targeted off-road, high-performance audiences (male skew), but, Tire Business. As such, the new spots will be test-marketed in three regional areas over the next three months.

With that said, sellers should keep engaging in-house and agency side decision makers to remain top-of-mind for the next consumer push. Expect more digital direct response (DR) revenue than usual to be available, because more millennials are shopping for tires online. Additionally, Pathmatics already reports relatively high digital display spend for Toyo.

TV Breakdown: According to iSpot, Toyo Tires' national TV spend has been low over the past few years and declined year-over-year. National TV spend for this year is $26,190, a little less than half of the $54,650 spent for all of last year. Total spend for 2015 was even higher, at $78,502. Only one national TV ad has run this year,

"Durability" aired mainly on CBS Sports during "Snowmobile Racing," "Auto Racing" and "Stadium Super Trucks: Year in Review." 

Digital Breakdown: Pathmatics reports that so far this year Toyo has spent $153,400 on digital display ads, 70% of which were placed site direct, while the remainder have been bought primarily on DSP The Trade Desk. Top ad destinations include thebiglead.com, foxnews.com, ftw.usatoday.com and motortrend.com. 

In comparison, for all of last year, Toyo spent $2.1 million on display ads, almost double the $1.1 million spent the year prior. The majority of last year's ads were placed site direct on top ad destinations rollingstone.com, topspeed.com, mmajunkie.com and youtube.com.
