H2 Media Opps: Deckers boosting marketing spend for Ugg, Hoka One One


After promoting Dave Powers to CEO last year (more Deckers Outdoor's new leader has continued to focus on driving growth through increased investments. In the company's Q4 earnings call, Powers stated that Deckers would focus primarily on the Hoka One One and UGG brands to drive growth and get Deckers to the $2 billion market.

Specifically, Powers explained that for UGG, the company was focused on "driving growth through the men's business, spring and summer businesses in women's and then really from a channel perspective it's e-commerce globally." Additionally, he said that marketing spend will be up heading into fall to drive awareness of the HOKA brand. 

There's a wide variety revenue here for sellers - Ugg's larger female lifestyle-focused budgets, including more event and experiential activations, and Hoka's running and active lifestyle ad dollars. 

With that said, sellers should begin reaching out right away to secure their digital heavy budgets. Be sure to look for ad dollars tied to the HOKA brand initially, as marketing spend should pick up right away. It looks like, LA is handling media for all of Deckers' brands. We'll keep you posted as we learn more.

Digital Breakdown: Pathmatics reports that so far this year, Deckers has spent $1.1 million on digital display ads, the majority of which were placed site direct on vogue.com, tripadvisor.com, yogajournal.com, bustle.com and greatist.com. 

For all of 2016, the company spent $2.4 million on display ads, just a slight increase from the $2.3 million spent the year prior. For both 2015 and 2016 display spend was the highest in Sept., but for last year, spend peaked in March, June and Sept. Top ad destinations for 2016 display ads include amazon.com, rollingstone.com, athletic.net and uncrate.com.
