Score 59 - Close Watch: Carrabba's returning to direct marketing from 'overt' marketing efforts

This shift in strategy comes just under a year after Tanisha Chea joined Carrabba's as CMO (more new chief brand officer last year, so change could come sooner than later on several fronts. 

Sellers - you may remember that Carrabba's increased its marketing spend last year, but execs declined to say if spend will remain at these levels for 2017, or if a shift in strategy and renewed focus on "loyal customers" will preclude extra spend. We can tell you, however, that digital display and national TV spend are down through the first four months of the year, so perhaps the money is being shifted into different channels rather than eliminated completely. National TV Spend: 

For full 2016, Carrabba's spent $17.3 million on national TV ads - spend which was deployed in every quarter except Q4.

Digital Breakdown: Per Pathmatics, Carrabba's has spent $350,000 on digital display ads since Jan. 2016 (14.9 million impressions). Ads have mostly been split between online video (50%) and desktop ads (47%) that were placed site direct (96%).
