Momvertising Opps: Stonyfield names first creative AOR (Score 69)
Stonyfield was recently sold by Danone to Lactalis for $875 million. A new owner and a new AOR means that marketing budgets will likely increase for upcoming campaigns. Stonyfield does not currently employ national TV ads, so focus initially on digital dollars. Female-focus sellers, particularly mom-focused ones, will likely have the advantage securing revenue here. And, sellers should also note that the company leans heavily on content marketing. Look for the first work from GYK to break in late fall, followed by a larger brand effort in early 2018.
Agency readers - Dentsu Aegis's Carat still appears to have a portion of media buying and planning for Stonyfield, as it is Danone's media AOR. GYK also handles digital media work for the brand, so a complete consolidation could occur soon. However, given the recent sale of the brand, this is likely to change soon, especially since Stonyfield got a new CMO last summer and reviews tend to follow one another.
Stonyfield also added Sarah-Marie Cole as head of consumer engagement in January this year, so be sure pitches involve creative ways to raise brand awareness and communicate with consumers.
Media Spend: According to Kantar Media, Stonyfield spent $3.8 million on measured media in 2016.
Digital Breakdown: Per Pathmatics, Stonyfield has spent just under $300,000 on digital display ads so far this year (34.4 million impressions). Ads have been one of three types: mobile (46%), online video (31%) or desktop (23%). These ads have been placed either site direct (73%) or through Amnet Group (26%).
Top ad destinations include: babycenter.com, realtor.com, foxnews.com, stylecaster.com ad sheknows.com. This is down from the same period last year, when $440,000 was spent (26.9 million impressions).
For full 2016, Stonyfield spent just under $600,000 on digital display ads (36.2 million impressions).
