Campaign Imminent: Fred's taps SBC Advertising to increase traffic ahead of national expansion


Company: Fred's, Inc., Memphis, Tenn.-based discount retail chain operating 661 stores in the Southeast U.S.

During December's Q3 earnings call, Bloom mentioned, yet again, that Fred's would focus on its pharmacy division through a "significant investment in pharmacy marketing." Fred's also has plans to expand its revenue-generating healthcare services offered at its pharmacies. Additionally, the company is going to "build on momentum to diversify its specialty pharmacy portfolio" and will initially target oncology, rheumatoid arthritis and HIV, and will continue to grow its complementary product mix in health and beauty. COO Tim Liebmann, who joined Fred's in June 2016, mentioned that Fred's recently

Fred's is expanding marketing activities chain-wide, investing in customer research and reengineering its loyalty program. These efforts, stated Bloom, are all aimed at attracting new customers, winning back lapsed customers and rewarding and retaining existing customers. CMO Mary Lou Gardner (transformative time" at Fred's and said the company is "laser-focused" on engaging with customers. The company's marketing strategy, she said, is built on a few initiatives, including a fully-integrated customer loyalty program and a fully-integrated mobile app (launching H1 2017).

In the immediate future, Southeastern sellers with a focus on Gen-X and Boomers will likely have the don't sleep on the opportunity for more dollars.
