Male Media Opps: Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo promotes CMO ahead of 2022 season (Score 70)

The eo (HLS&R) recently appointed Lisa Gagnon to the newly-created role of CMO, effective June 23. Gagnon will now handle brand, broadcast and audio visual, communications and merchandise. She joined the organization as its executive marketing, PR and presentations director in 2017; she previously served as the marketing president at the Houston Super Bowl Host Committee.

It tends to financially invest in the youth of TX and education. The NLS&R's 2020 event ended early, and its 2021 event was canceled outright when COVID-19 broke out. Despite the global pandemic, though, the HLS&R's total education for commitment for the 2021 season was over $21.7m.

According to iSpot, the organization hasn't utilized national TV since allocating around $5.4k in 2020.

According to Pathmatics, the HLS&R has only spent roughly $100 on digital ads YTD. Its estimated full-year 2020 spend dropped significantly to $59.9k from that of $139.2k in 2019. So far this year, the organization has earned ~30.2k digital impressions via desktop display (41%), Twitter (40%) and mobile display (19%) ads. All of this year's desktop display ads have been placed via Google AdX + AdSense onto texasmonthly.com.

It makes sense that the HLS&R hasn't yet invested much in advertising this year. I expect its spend to pick back up toward the end of 2021 to promote the 2022 season, which kicks off in late February and runs through the end of March; view more details here. The HLS&R targets Gen-Z and millennials, especially men situated locally in and around Houston.

Agency & martech readers - This promotion could easily lead to agency reviews. Get in touch sooner rather than later to see what, if any, work is available under Gagnon's radar. Love Advertising is the HLS&R's media AOR in the past; since both the organization and this agency are headquartered in TX, readers in this state will have an advantage.
